      Frank Thomas Briggs Jr., 76, of the 2200 block of Wildwood Road, died Feb. 19, 2004, in his residence.

      A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Frank Thomas Briggs and the late Frances Codd Briggs and retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard No. 67. Mr. Briggs was a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge No. 178 AF&AM and was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II.

      Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bernice Hollowell Briggs; two sons, Thomas Hollowell Briggs and wife Linda of Yorktown, Va., and Frank Thomas Briggs III and wife Vicki of Virginia Beach; a sister, Frances Kressley of Chesapeake;two brothers-in-law, Thomas Simons of Chesapeake and Rudy Costner and wife Minnie of Portsmouth; five granddaughters; and six great- grandchildren.

      A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Karen Whitehurst. There will be a Masonic rites service at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today at 7 p.m. followed by visitationuntil 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 4608 Deep Creek Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23702.
