      Walter William Small, 51, of Macedonia Road, died Dec. 4, 1996, in Albemarle Hospital.

      A native of Chowan County, Mr. Small was a son of the late Charles Heber and Anne Johnson Small and the husband of Cleo Ragun Small. Mr. Small was a landscaper and had served in the National Guard.

      Surviving other than his wife are three sisters, Mildred Ellington of Richmond, Alphia Paddock of Rutherford, N.J., Libby Matthews of Hertford; and a brother, Minton C. Small of Trenton, N.C. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles H.Small Jr.

      A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Edenton Baptist Church with burial to follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Advance Community Building. The family will receivefriends at the Evans Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the residence of Libby Matthews, 108 E. Academy St., Hertford. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 853, Edenton, N.C. 27932.Evans Funeral Home is in charge.
